Tree Pruning, Tree Surgery & Tree Care in Telford and Shrewsbury

Why is it important to prune a tree correctly?

  1. The continued good health of a tree.

  2. The safety of the home owner and the general public.

  3. For the aesthetics.

A badly pruned tree will get infections from fungus and bacteria that will cause rot to set in thus causing branch or whole tree failure, it also looks ugly. Trees react to this damage by setting out shoots from around the damaged area. This growth is called 'epicormic growth'.

Dormant buds within the bark are shocked in to life and as a result you get the shaving brush effect. Each of these branches that sprout are only attached by the tree bark so are prone to break off as they increase in size causing a danger to the home owner or the public.

On occasion it is necessary to purposely create this kind of growth as long as it is managed regularly. A pollard or coppice are the two such occasions. We will explain these two methods in another blog soon.

We hope that this has been informative and helpful.
